糖心传媒

Call for Papers

We warmly welcome the submission of abstracts for the 糖心传媒 2022 conference. The conference will be held at the University of Edinburgh between Tuesday 13th and Thursday 15th September. The conference theme is 鈥Partnerships in Education: collaboration, co-operation, co-optation‘, and there are six sub-themes focusing on different aspects of this.

A note about our plans for 糖心传媒 2022

We are excited to announce our first in-person conference since before the pandemic. This year we are aiming to gather at the University of Edinburgh. We see this as a tremendous opportunity to come together once more as a community.

We recognise that hybrid conferences are the most accessible, but we are unable to offer a hybrid conference while also maintaining our commitment to accessibility through comparatively low registration fees. However, in addition to the in-person format, we will have a core of virtual activities which will be free-of-charge to members of our community who are unable to travel to the conference. This will include live-streamed access to our keynote speeches. If you are confirmed in the programme but are unable to attend at the last minute we will try our best to accommodate an online presentation. If circumstances change and we are unable to host the conference in-person, we will move to a fully-online model.

For many who are able to travel to Edinburgh, 糖心传媒 2022 will be the first time meeting old and new colleagues and friends in over two years. We want to maximise the potential of this togetherness. While being conscious of social distancing and safety, the committee aim to host a conference with a core focus on time and spaces for collective learning, collegiality and congeniality.

Invitation to participate

We invite submissions for individual papers, symposia, workshops and posters/exhibitions 鈥 and we also have some spaces in the programme set aside for more creative sessions that you would like to propose that might not fit formal expectations of academic conference submissions. All submissions will undergo double-blind peer review by the conference committee.

Considering the recent UCU strike action, we have decided to extend the deadline for abstract submission. The new deadline is Tuesday 19th April 2022, 5 pm.

Please submit your abstract or proposal by 5pm (UK time) Tuesday 19th April 2022. Decisions will be announced by mid-May.

Abstract Guidelines

We invite submissions for individual papers, symposia, workshops and posters/exhibitions 鈥 and we also have some spaces in the programme set aside for more creative sessions that you would like to propose that might not fit formal expectations of academic conference submissions. All submissions will undergo double-blind peer review by the conference committee.

To maximise participation in the conference and to avoid timetable clashes, we request that each individual is only a named presenter on either an individual paper or a symposia submission. You may present in one of the above and a creative session, but you will need to let us know if both of these are accepted through the blind review process so we can schedule accordingly.

All members of our community, and anyone with an interest in international and comparative education, are welcome to participate in the conference whether they submit an abstract or not. Registration will open soon.

Individual Papers

Please submit an abstract of up to 300 words. Individual papers will be grouped by the conference committee into sessions lasting 60-90 minutes. There will be approximately 3-4 presentations in each session. Each presenter will be given 10 minutes to present their work. Prior to the presentation, we would like presenters to communicate with one another to decide on 1-2 key questions that link their work, and that they would like the audience to respond to in the discussion. There will be approximately 25-30 minutes for discussion in each parallel session. We intend that this will encourage networking, collaboration and shared learning. Please make it clear in your abstract how your work links to the main conference theme, and the sub-theme you are applying to.

Symposia

Please submit an abstract of up to 800 words. Symposia will last between 60-90 minutes. There is no limit to the number of presenters. All proposals will be considered, but to ensure the conference is financially viable, priority may be given to sessions that include three (or more!) registered conference participants.  We especially welcome submissions that include early career researchers on the presentation team. We are open about the format of the session, but we ask that the presentation element is limited to 30 minutes, with the rest of the session focussed on discussion. In your abstract, please briefly indicate how you intend to structure the session. Please make it clear in your abstract how your work links to the main conference theme, and the sub-theme you are applying to. Please also make it clear why a symposium space has been chosen over an individual paper submission (i.e. the work might span multiple projects with comparative data or perspectives).

Posters/exhibitions

Please submit an abstract of up to 300 words. We welcome traditional academic posters, as well as other visual representations of work that can be displayed in our exhibition space. Please make it clear in your abstract how your work links to the main conference theme, and the sub-theme you are applying to.

Creative sessions

Please submit an abstract of up to 800 words. We welcome any format or structure as long as there is a strong focus on people coming together to communicate, reflect and learn. Creative sessions will last 60-90 minutes 鈥 please indicate which you would prefer. There is no limit to the number of presenters. All proposals will be considered, but to ensure the conference is financially viable, priority may be given to sessions that include three (or more!) registered conference participants. We especially welcome submissions that include early career researchers on the presentation or facilitation team. Please make it clear in your abstract how your work links to the main conference theme, and the sub-theme you are applying to.
