Comparative Education has long been entangled with the study of other countries and societies. N贸voa and Yariv-Mashal traced the foci of CE from 鈥榢nowing the 鈥渙ther鈥濃��, 鈥榰nderstanding the 鈥渙ther鈥濃�� to 鈥榗onstructing the 鈥渙ther鈥濃��, and 鈥榤easuring the 鈥渙ther鈥濃��; Steiner-Khamsi recounted the influence of development and area studies on CE during the Cold War; Takayama described the redefinition of CE in Japan as 鈥榓rea studies of education鈥�.
