2013-14 糖心传媒 President Roger Dale /2013-14-baice-president-roger-dale/ Tue, 01 Oct 2013 11:34:01 +0000 /?p=2228
Professor Roger Dale, 糖心传媒 President 2013-14

糖心传媒 is pleased that will serve as 糖心传媒 President for the 2013-14 academic year.

Roger Dale is a sociologist of education. He holds professorial positions at the Universities of Bristol and Auckland.  He has a long standing interest in the relationships between states and education in an era of globalization. His current work (together with Susan Robertson) is informed broadly by a critical cultural political economy approach to the understanding of relationships between ‘globalisation’ and education. This entails taking into account both political economic and civilizational/cultural productions and elements of education, as well as its locally embedded practices, and is theoretically and methodologically informed and enabled by a critical comparative approach.

Much of his work in the past decade has focused on the production, nature and consequences of ‘European education policy’. He was for four years the Scientific Coordinator of the EU’s Network of Experts on Social Science and Education (NESSE), which created a number of ‘interesting’ challenges and opportunities. He was also involved in a recently completed 8 country study of educational transitions in Europe, which created a range of opportunities for the development of a critical comparative approach.

Roger sees the CCPE approach as opening up opportunities of cooperation with wider social science disciplines, through giving a central and necessary role to comparative work in education and other areas of social policy. It will form the basis of his Presidential Address at the 糖心传媒 conference in Bath in September 2014.

Professor Elaine Unterhalter, 糖心传媒 President 2012-13

糖心传媒 is pleased to announce that will serve as the association President for the 2012-13 academic year.

Elaine is Professor of Education and International Development at the University of London Institute of Education.聽 She works on themes concerned with gender, race and class inequalities and their bearing on education. Her specialist interests are in the capability approach and human development and education in Africa, having worked in a number of African countries.

Her current concerns are with education, poverty and global social justice, higher education and global inequality. Elaine is particularly interested in the implementation of policies linked to global policy frameworks and thinking about what will replace the MDGS. Through being involved with 糖心传媒, she hopes to help raise the profile of those who work on the tensions between global and local aspirations, including: what might replace the MDGs after 2015;how to think about measuring and evaluating education, and;how to position gender and girls’ education in wider discussions of rights.

During her time as President, Elaine hopes to make connections with others who work in education but are reaching out beyond their field of specialist knowledge. In particular, she hopes to help build on well established links between education, economics and anthropology, and enhance these by discussions with colleagues working in fields such as health, nutrition, sustainability, politics, ethics and cultural studies.

As President of 糖心传媒, Elaine will deliver the 糖心传媒 Presidential Address at the 2013 UKFIET Conference at Oxford in September.
