New College, Oxford

The 糖心传媒 AGM was held at New College, Oxford on 16th September. Many thanks to all the members, who joined us.

Changes to the 糖心传媒 Exec

We thanked the 糖心传媒 officers, who give their time voluntarily to the association. Special thanks go to outgoing officers. Michael Crossley and Terra Sprague have turned the web into a hub for our communications and its online archive into a valuable open access resource. Lizzi Milligan, the outgoing Secretary, 听has kept the wheels of the 糖心传媒 exec turning smoothly and Julia Paulson, the outgoing Membership Secretary, has steadily increased our membership.
Over the last year, we have welcomed three ordinary members on the committee – 听Alison Buckler o(The Open University), Tingting Yuan (Liverpool Hope University) and Eleanor Brown (University of York). Arif Naveed (Cambridge University) has joined us as a student representative. Anneke Newman (University of Sussex) is taking on the role of Secretary. The AGM welcomed them into their new roles.

Compare Editors

The Compare Editors were 听thanked for their hard work. Nitya Rao (University of East Anglia), Paul Morris (UCL Institute of Education) and Yusuf Sayed (University of Sussex), have overseen the journal as it has consolidated its position in the SSCI rankings and continued to provide 糖心传媒 with financial security. Paul and Yusuf are now stepping down. Paul has contributed extensively on management of Special Issues, and to negotiations with the publisher that have secured a favourable (for 糖心传媒) contract for the next six years. Yusuf has 听innovated the Compare Forum, a now widely read and significant aspect of Compare.
They will be replaced by Germ Janmaat and Tristan McCowan (both UCL Institute of Education), who were warmly welcomed into their new roles.

Honorary Members join us at UKFIET Conference

糖心传媒 has a longstanding tradition of showing its appreciation to individuals, who have made a significant contribution to the field of international and comparative education and to the association, through awarding them honorary life membership. This was the first year that 糖心传媒 showed its appreciation to honorary members through financially supporting their participation in the UKFIET conference. They repaid us handsomely with their sparky engagement both at the conference and the AGM. We look forward to their participation at future conferences.

Happy Birthday CIES

We send our congratulations to the Comparative and International Education Society (CIES), USA – celebrating 60 years since its inception.

Membership

Membership remains stable and healthy at 260 members. Please get in contact if you are not receiving Compare or your membership needs renewing, through ku.ca.eciabobfsctd-47a3d0@pihsrebmem. Renewal forms and payment details are on ourwebsite.

Post-2015 Education and Development Agenda – Deadline 30 June 2013

A Special Edition of the Compare Forum is planned for the last edition of this year (43:6) focusing on the Post 2015 education and development agenda.

This Special Edition will be compiled by Yusuf Sayed and Terra Sprague together with UNICEF and UNESCO as the co-leads for the education Post 2015 consultation.

As the 2015 target date for achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) approaches, there are a growing number of processes, preparations and debates on what a post-2015 agenda and framework will look like. UNDG (as chaired by UNDP) is leading planning efforts to catalyze a “global conversation” on post-2015 through a series of some 100 national consultations and 11 global thematic consultations. The aim of these consultations is to bring together a broad range of stakeholders to review progress on the MDGs and to discuss the options for a new framework.

The overall global thematic consultation on education is co-lead by UNICEF, UNESCO, with support from the Government of Canada, the Government of Germany and the Government of the Republic of Senegal. The discussion considers:

  • the international education and development experience since 2000;
  • current development trends and challenges, as well as future scenarios which need to be taken into account when defining the post-2015 education framework;
  • the possible scope and shape of education within the post 2015 agenda.

The purpose of special edition is to contribute to this debate in relation to ideas about how progress towards greater education quality and equity can be achieved, including how and what goals and targets need to be defined and owned and governments made accountable for them.

We welcome short contributions of about 1000-1200 words on the topic. We intend to publish about 10 peer reviewed contributions in the journal and here on the 糖心传媒 website, with the possibility of including additional contributions on the website version.

Please submit your contribution using the form below.听 Deadline is 30 June, 2013.

Submission Requirements

  • A Forum submission is an informed and critically reflective contribution to a topic drawing from different experiences, which may include researcher and practitioner.
  • Submissions should be between 1000-1200 words, and fully referenced.
  • Perspectives and views should therefore be made concisely with reference to relevant literature. For guidelines on referencing, visit the .
  • While Forum submissions are not traditional academic articles, the writing style must nevertheless avoid the use of jargon and undefined acronyms.听 Submissions should not be overly-rhetorical or polemical.
  • Submissions should be double spaced and lead with a title page containing the authors name, position, institution and email address.
  • Please upload your submission using the form below.

Please email Yusuf Sayed (y.sayed@susex.ac.uk) and Terra Sprague (terra.sprague@bristol.ac.uk) with further questions.

Launching Compare’s On-line Writing for Publication Programme /launching-compares-on-line-writing-for-publication-programme/ Sun, 11 Sep 2011 20:59:23 +0000 /?p=150 Over the past five years, Compare has developed a programme to support new writers to the journal, with the purpose of breaking down the barriers that scholars in developing countries often encounter when trying to publish in international journals. Funded by the 糖心传媒, the programme has run on a yearly basis, consisting of a day’s workshop facilitated by specialists in academic writing and a follow-up mentoring programme. During the workshop, participants work on key features of academic journal articles, look at submitted and revised papers to Compare and have the chance to discuss the expectations and interests of Compare with the editors. Afterwards, each participant is allocated an individual mentor with specialist knowledge in their area of research and/or geographical region, to give follow-up advice and feedback on drafts of their work by e-mail. This year, the workshop will take place in Oxford on September 12th 2011 (immediately before the 11th UKFIET International Conference on Education and Development).

In response to many enquiries from people who wanted to attend the writer’s workshop but were unable to travel to the UK, Compare is launching an on-line version of the workshop on September 12th this year. Registered participants will be able to log in to the on-line workshop and follow similar activities to those in the face-to-face workshop. The on-line version includes DVD and audio materials where editors, former workshop participants and journal reviewers explain more about the journal and the programme. After completing the tasks on-line and receiving feedback from the facilitators, participants will be offered the opportunity to develop their article for Compare through follow-up mentoring by email with a specialist in their area.

The on-line workshop will run for two weeks from September 12th. Seven participants have registered for the online workshop, one each from India, Argentina, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Canada, Uzbekistan and the UK. The online workshop can be found at:
